K-12 schools are preparing to welcome students back to in-person, full-time instruction, with some returning as early as next week. As the 2021-2022 academic year quickly approaches, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new guidance on safely returning to in-person instruction on Friday, July 9.
To promote safety, the CDC emphasized several strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in K-12 schools, such as consistently cleaning and disinfecting. The latter can be achieved by choosing Decon7 (D7), which kills a minimum of 99.9999% of bacteria in the biofilm. Additional prevention strategies, which the CDC recommends layering, include:
- Improving ventilation in the classrooms
- Maintaining three feet of distance between students
- Correct and consistent mask use indoors and in crowded settings
- Frequent handwashing or, when soap and water is not available, using hand sanitizer
The Difference Between Cleaning and Disinfecting
Cleaning removes germs and dirt from surfaces. Unlike disinfecting, cleaning does not kill germs but removes them. The act of cleaning also ensures that contaminants do not impact the efficacy of the disinfectant and should, therefore, always precede disinfecting.
Disinfecting requires using an EPA-registered disinfectant, which you can find on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s List N: Disinfectants for Coronavirus (COVID-19), like Decon7, kills germs to reduce risk and prevent the spread of COVID-19. D7 features a log kill rate of 99.999%.
Choose Decon7 Disinfectant Products and Supplies
Decon7 (D7) is an EPA-registered disinfectant proven effective at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 by inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus on hard, non-porous surfaces and objects, with minimal effort when used according to label directions.
Another critical advantage of Decon7 is its foaming application methodology. That method allows the active disinfection ingredients – hydrogen peroxide and quaternary ammonium – to remain on the surface longer and ensure efficacy. You can purchase portable fogging machines for use on school campuses and public facilities from TACT Clean.
TACT Clean offers D7 in various volumes, from four to 520 gallons, for use in different healthcare and institutional sites. It can also be used in residences. We also offer alcohol-free hand sanitizer with the active ingredient Benzalkonium Chloride.
